Privacy Policy

In one sentence
Magpie does its work on your Mac. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no crash reporting. We do not collect, receive or upload anything you save. On the App Store, the privacy label for Magpie is “Data Not Collected”.
Where your data lives
| Data | Where | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Saved videos, audio, articles, files | The folder you choose (default: Downloads/Magpie) | Stays on your Mac |
| Library records, settings, progress | Magpie’s application data folder | Stays on your Mac |
| Website sign-ins | The app window’s own website data | Stays on your Mac. Clear it any time in Help |
When Magpie uses the internet
When you save content, buy or restore a purchase, or request an update. The App Store edition can also check purchase entitlements automatically at startup or during use:
- You save a link: Magpie connects to the site you gave it and to that site’s media servers.
- App Store edition: Apple handles purchases and restores. Magpie may automatically check purchase validity at startup or during use, and read the Apple-verified transaction date of the zero-price trial product to calculate the 14-day trial you explicitly claim.
- Direct edition only: if you press “Check for updates”, it contacts the yt-dlp release page on GitHub; BitTorrent links connect to the DHT and trackers, and other peers can see your IP address; optional speech models are downloaded only after you confirm.
Magpie does not send anything to our servers. We do not run any.
Purchases and licences
App Store edition: Apple handles payment, receipts and refunds under its privacy policy. Magpie reads purchase validity and the Apple-verified transaction date of the zero-price trial product for the 14-day trial you explicitly claim. Entitlement checks may connect automatically at startup or during use. Direct edition: licence keys are verified on your Mac with a public key built into the app; activating a key does not contact any server.
Website sign-ins
For sites that need you to sign in, you sign in yourself in the app window. Magpie never reads or stores your password. It uses the signed-in state only to fetch what you ask it to save.
Clipboard
Clipboard notices are off by default. If you turn them on, Magpie reads only links, to recognise them, and keeps nothing else.
Your choices
- Clear website sign-ins in Help at any time.
- Delete Magpie’s application data folder to remove all records.
- The files you save are yours. Delete them whenever you like.
